【摘要】:Thelaboratoryweatheringprocedurewillgeneratedatathatcanbeusedto:(1)determinewhetherasolidmaterialwillproduceanacidic,alkaline,orneutraleffluent,(2)identifysolutesintheeffluentthatrepresentdissolvedweatheringproductsformedduringaspecifiedperiodoftime,(3)determinethemassofsoluterelease,and(4)determinetherateatwhichsolutesarereleased(fromthesolidsintotheeffluent)underthecloselycontrolledconditionsofthetest.Datageneratedbythelaboratoryweatheringprocedurecanbeusedtoaddressthefollowingobjectives:(1)determinethevariationofdrainagequalityasafunctionofcompositionalvariations(forexample,ironsulfideandcalcium+magnesiumcarbonatecontents)withinindividualmine-rocklithologies,(2)determinetheamountofNPaccessibleinamine-rocksampletoneutralizeacidandmaintaindrainagepHx2265;6.0undertheconditionsofthetest,(3)estimatemine-rockweatheringratestoaidinpredictingtheenvironmentalbehaviorofminerock,and(4)determinemine-rockweatheringratestoaidinexperimentaldesignofsite-specifickinetictests.Thelaboratory-weatheringprocedureprovidesconditionsconducivetooxidationofsolidmaterialconstituentsandenhancesthetransportofweatheringreactionproductscontainedintheresultingweeklyeffluent.Thisisaccomplishedbycontrollingtheexposureofthesolidmaterialsampletosuchenvironmentalparametersasreactionenvironmenttemperatureandapplicationrateofwaterandoxygen.Becauseefficientremovalofreactionproductsisvitaltotrackmineraldissolutionratesduringtheprocedure,laboratoryleachvolumesarelargeperunitmassofrocktopromotetherinsingofweathering-reactionproductsfromthemine-rocksample.Acomparisonoflaboratorykinetictestswithfieldtestshasshownthatmorereactionproductsfrommineraldissolutionareconsistentlyreleasedperunitweightandunittimeinlaboratoryweatheringtests(9).Forexample,sulfatereleaseratesobservedinlaboratorytestsofmetal-minerockhavebeenreportedtobe3to8timesthoseforsmall-scalefieldtestpilesofDuluthComplexrock(10),andfrom2to20timesthoseforsmall-scalefieldtestpilesofArcheangreenstonerock(11).Agreaterincreaseisanticipatedwhenlaboratoryratesarecomparedwithfieldratesmeasuredfromoperationalwaste-rockpiles.FundamentalassumptionsgoverningOptionsAandBoftheprocedure:1.1Thiskinetictestmethodcoversalaboratoryweatheringprocedurethat(1)enhancesreaction-producttransportintheaqueousleachofasolidmaterialsampleofspecifiedmass,and(2)measuresratesofweathering-productmassrelease.Solubleweatheringproductsaremobilizedbyafixed-volumeaqueousleachthatisperformedandcollectedweekly.LeachatesamplesareanalyzedforpH,alkalinity/acidity,specificconductance,sulfate,andotherselectedanalytes.1.1.1Thistestmethodisintendedforusetomeetkinetictestingregulatoryrequirementsforminingwasterockandoressizedtopassa6.3-mm(0.25-in.)Tylerscreen.1.1.2Interlaboratorytestingofthismethodhasbeenconfinedtominewasterock.Applicationofthistestmethodtometallurgical-processingwaste(forexample,milltailings)isoutsidethescopeofthetestmethod.1.2Thistestmethodisamodificationofalaboratoryweatheringproceduredevelopedori......
